Sweet or manipulative???

I laid Ian down for a nap and he had been in his room for about 20 minutes when I hear him come out. I asked him what he was doing and why he wasn't taking a nap. He said " 'cause I miss you".

7th birthday

Jonathan celebrated his 7th birthday on the 10th. I can't believe my little boy is 7 already. His birthday was on a Thursday, so because of work schuedules, soccer practice and school we couldn't celebrate on the 10th. We decided to let him open his presents on Wednesday. This was a very last minute decision. Patrick was home early that day and I thought we better do it when we were all together. Jonathan had no problems getting his presents a day early. Then on Friday we went to play miniature golf and played in the arcades for a while. The kids always have fun doing that. Then we came home and had cake. So it was kind of a weird way to celebrate his birthday, but it worked out fine. I mean, all the kid cares about is the presents :) Jonathan and Samantha were both wanting to have a birthday party, but I really wasn't up for that this year, so I promised them next year they can each have a party. They are already planning and telling me what they want to do. So we will make up for the lame celebrations next year.

play date

My friend watched Ian the other day and she sent me these cute pictures of Ian and her daughter playing. They took turns sitting in the cradle and reading to each other. 2 year olds are the best!!!

First day of school

This morning when I woke Samantha up she just rolled over and wanted to go back to sleep. I told her that she had to get ready for school and instantly a big smile swept across her face and she said "I am soooo excited". She got up right away and got dressed. She has been looking forward to this day for the last year. Jonathan was equally excited. He was awake 15 minutes before I was going to wake him up. He always wakes up early when there is something he is looking forward too. He didn't want me to walk him to class. He knew where to go and was excited about having a real locker. They both have good teachers and I think this will be a good school year. I went and had lunch with Samantha and got to meet some of the kids in her class. One little girl was already asking to have a sleepover with Samantha. One thing she was so excited about with school is that she will be making lots of new friends. Neither Samantha or Jonathan will have a hard time with that. They are both very happy, social kids. All in all it was a very good start and I am really looking forward to just having Ian at home. It is a much calmer...quieter house. YEEPEE!!! Here are some pics of Jonathan and Samantha just before we left. I don't think Samantha could smile any bigger.

Another week...

Samantha was suppose to get her cast off today, but after the x-rays they decided it would be best to leave it on for one more week. We were all a little disappointed but know we have to do what is best for the girl. We certainly don't want to be back at the hospital in a few weeks starting this whole thing over again. So, Samantha will be starting school with a cast. Poor girl!!
One thing that we have been excited about in our house was re-doing the kids room. Samantha's room is much bigger, so we decided to put the boys in there instead. We painted both rooms in 4 LONG days. Everyone got a new bedspread and something new for there room. In the end, everyone has been very happy with there new spaces.

A trip tp the E.R.

Well, I always thought it would be one of my boys that caused trips to the emergency room. But so far it has been my sweet little Samantha. First time was about 3 years ago when Samantha broke her leg when she went down the slide with mommy. CRAZY way to break a leg!! And most recently (Saturday evening) we were at some friends house and the kids were playing on the top bunk. They have a rope hanging from the ceiling right next to the bed. The kids love to get on top of the bed and tarzan down the rope. Well, Samantha was up on the rope and Jonathan said she was in his face so he pushed her. And down she went from the top bunk onto the floor. I was holding Ian who just got hurt himself and was still crying. (He has a nice little bruise on his cheek) My friend came into the room with Samantha screaming. Of course right away I ask if she can move her arm and she tells me NO. I don't know if she is just being dramatic (girls can be sooooo dramatic). We waited about an hour. We wanted her to calm down and see what she said. She stopped crying but said she couldn't move her arm. So we decided we needed to take her to the ER. Patrick went home with the boys and I took Samantha up to Cook Childrens Hospital. We did not have to wait 1 second. (Great timing, huh!!) We got right back and got x-rays. The dr. came in and just looked at her elbow and could tell it was broken. The x-rays showed that it broke in 2 different places and said they would need to put pins in. Within maybe 20 minutes Samantha got her IV and we were headed up to surgury. Thank goodness Cooks is an awesome hospital, with the best orthopetic surgens you can find. I was totally confident in them and was not worried. Everything went well and she got to spend the night in the hospital. Thankfully we were able to leave around 9:30am Sunday. She has been a real trooper. She has not complained of being in pain hardly at all. I have only given her motrin a couple of times. She has to have the cast on for about 3 weeks. So she will either start kindergarten with a cast or will have the cast off just a day or two before. She will have one stiff arm for starting school.
Jonathan did feel bad. He had quite a run of some bad luck. About 30 minutes after he caused Samantha's broken arm, he pulled a shelf off my friends wall and broke a sno-globe. (What a night that was) Then Monday evening he was playing around on the couch and who knows what happened exactly, but he broke the curtain rode. Patrick was able to bend things back together and get it hung back up. Hopefully Jonathan is done with his string of terror!!! Today he has been exceptionally sweet and polite. I will get a picture of Samantha with her cast and post it later.
